The "R" Word

Today is "Spread the Word to End the Word" Day. People all over the US will be coming together to pledge that they are eliminating the word "retard(ed)" from their vocabulary. Being a member of Best Buddies, I will be one of those people. 

I don't think we actually stop and consider the effects our words can have sometimes. We brush it off as a joke, or act like the other person is too easily offended. But in James 3:5-6 it says

{Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.}

So today it's up to you. Go here and get more information. Then please pledge to remove the "R" word from your vocabulary. And if I'm sounding judgmental at this point, I'll go ahead and say that I guilty myself. I've used this word many more times than I should. So this is as much of a reminder to me as it is to y'all.

The English language is so vast...I'm sure we can find some other word to use, right? ;)
